What is ozone therapy?

You’ve probably heard of the ozone layer in our atmosphere which protects us against UV radiation from the sun, but did you know that ozone can also be used as a powerful protective tool in our own bodies?

What is ozone?

The origin of the word "ozone" comes from the Greek word "ozein", which translates to "smelling gas". Aptly named, ozone gas has a distinct, pungent odor that some describe as being similar to the smell of fresh-cut grass.

In its simplest terms, ozone is an energy-rich, highly-reactive, pale-blue gas formed when oxygen molecules are exposed to electrical discharges—either by the earth's electromagnetic field, lightning, or in an ozone generator—causing three oxygen atoms to bond together. Ozone gas degrades rapidly as the third oxygen atom forms more stable bonds with other elements, leaving behind two atoms that form the oxygen gas we breathe.

How does ozone work?

preconditioning: the most powerful protective mechanism ever discovered
Anti-oxidant production

When ozone (O3) enters your body, its highly unstable chemical make-up creates oxidation, which is responsible for its anti-microbial properties. In response, your body produces a flood of healing antioxidants and enzymes associated with health and longevity.

Preconditioning

Preconditioning is the adaptive reaction our body has in response to temporary, mild stressors, and is the most powerful protective mechanism discovered yet in the body.

Activities—like exercise and ozone therapy—that activate preconditioning help to strengthen the body against every class of disease.

Increased cellular energy output

The effects of ozone are often described as a subtle "buzz", or slight burst of energy. This feeling is due to enhanced mitochondrial activity, increased oxygen bio-availability to the tissues, and O3's ability to fight inflammation and regenerate damaged cells.

The result

The results are as unique as each person, and can include increased cellular energy generation, cell renewal, tissue repair, increased immune function, lowered inflammation, inactivation of parasites, viruses, fungi, and bacteria, improved respiratory function, improved circulatory function, improved brain function, and more!

Ozone Benefits

Ozone therapy is a multifaceted, alternative approach to healing that has a wide array of benefits that include, but are not limited to:

  • Boosts mitochondrial function (1)
  • Increases cellular energy production (1)
  • Promotes strong immune system (2)
  • Fights free radicals (3)
  • Kills pathogens (4)
  • Reduces inflammation (5)
  • Chronic pain management (6)
  • Repairs damaged cells and tissue (7)
  • Promotes respiratory and circulatory function (8)
  • Increases oxygen levels in the blood (1)
  • Helps the body detox (1)
  • Heals wounds (9)
  • Reduces risk of repeat heart attacks (10)
  • Promotes healthier skin (11)

Diseases and conditions ozone therapy has been shown to improve and/or manage:

  • Chronic conditions: diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, fibromyalgia, Crohn's,  mold toxicity, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's
  • Respiratory disorders: asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,  long-haul Covid-19
  • Skin conditions: acne, psoriasis, rosacea, shingles, wounds, eczema, rashes, sunburns, bug bites
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, carpal  tunnel syndrome, chronic joint pain, muscle pain, low back pain, knee pain
  • Infectious diseases: HIV, candida, h-pylori, hepatitis B and C, Epstein-Barr,  Lyme, herpes 1 and 2
  • Eye conditions: macular degeneration, conjunctivitis
  • Oral/dental conditions: cavities, periodontal disease, oral infections
  • Gut conditions: IBS, gut dysbiosis, constipation, diarrhea
  • General health conditions: flu, colds, fatigue, heartburn, depression, anxiety, hormone imbalance

          ... and many more!

A brief history of ozone therapy

Ozone therapy has recently turned into a buzzword within the alternative health sphere, but it is by no means a new treatment; in fact, ozone’s medicinal properties have been studied for hundreds of years, and the first documented treatments using ozone date back to the 1800s.

During WW1, ozone was used to disinfect and treat wounds, ulcers, frozen foot, and gangrene.

Thanks to Nikola Tesla, his ozone generator design at the turn of the 20th century revolutionized ozone therapy. By 1900 Tesla Ozone Company was built, and Tesla was selling ozonated olive oil to doctors. In 1929, a book titled "Ozone and Its Therapeutic Actions" was published, which described 114 diseases treatable by ozone therapy.

Today, ozone therapy is a common practice in many countries such as Germany, Russia, and China, with over 11,000 ozone therapists in Germany alone.

Ozone therapy is expensive when administered in clinics (it can run you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars), as well as inconvenient (clinics that offer ozone therapy in the U.S. are few and far between).

We believe that everyone should be able to access this powerful therapy, which is why we created Soma Ozonated Salve and Soma Resonance Water, so you can receive the benefits of ozone in your home.
